Changelog

What changed in each release of the desktop app, newest first.

  1. 0.1.6

    Latest

    Added

    • An update reminder at the top of the window. When a newer Stayaway is out, a banner says so as the app starts, with Update now and Later. If a run is going, Update now asks before stopping it. Later hides it until Stayaway next starts.
    • Home now shows the Emergency Stop shortcut beside the button, so you know it before you need it, and says in one line what Running and Resting mean.

    Changed

    • A new look: a lime colour, a new logo and a new app icon.

    Fixed

    • One stray touch no longer ends a run. A brushed touchpad, a resting palm or a single key press used to stop it straight away. Now it takes real use, like typing, scrolling or moving the mouse further than your Smart Resume sensitivity.
    • Auto Detect picks the run back up after you leave again. Before, a run that stopped because you touched the computer could stay stopped until you touched it once more, even with Auto Detect on.
    • Home and the tray now say when a run is paused rather than finished, for example "Paused - you used the computer. Resumes after 20 s idle", using your own Auto Detect time. With Auto Detect off it says Stopped and how to start again.
    • A rest no longer looks like a stop. Home says the run continues by itself and shows how long the rest has lasted.
    • Stayaway no longer mistakes its own key release for you typing. A key it held a little longer than usual could end the run.
    • Stayaway now keeps a note of why each run ended and what started it, and Report a problem includes the most recent ones, so a stop nobody expected can be explained.
    • App Switch and Tab Switch keep to the interval you set. Before, long intervals never fired at all.
    • App Switch now works when a run starts from Stayaway's own window, and no longer stops on that window or on one you cannot see.
    • Tab Switch tries again a few seconds later when no browser is in front, instead of skipping that round.
    • A failed save on Home can now be dismissed.
  2. 0.1.5

    Added

    • Run as administrator (Windows): a new switch under General. Some work apps run as administrator, and Windows does not let ordinary apps send mouse and keyboard input to them, so Stayaway had to pause while one of their windows was in front. Turn this on and Stayaway runs as administrator too, so it can keep going. It is off by default; turning it on restarts Stayaway and Windows asks you to confirm.

    Fixed

    • Runs no longer stop by themselves a few minutes in. When Windows refuses Stayaway's mouse and keyboard, for example while a window running as administrator is in front or the screen is locked, the run now pauses and carries on by itself as soon as input gets through. If it lasts, you get a notification saying so, and the window offers to restart Stayaway as administrator when that would help.
    • "Stopped because you used the mouse or keyboard" no longer appears when nobody touched them. A move Windows refused was being counted as one that happened.
    • App Switch no longer switches to a window running as administrator, which it then could not switch away from.
  3. 0.1.4

    Added

    • Click Activity (Pro): Stayaway can click for you, only at spots you pick on the screen. Turn it on, choose your spots, and set how long to wait between clicks. With no spots chosen there are no clicks, and a click is skipped when another window has covered the spot.

    Changed

    • A new window. Stayaway now wears the same design as the website, with its own title bar and a side rail: a Home dashboard and separate Activity, Shortcuts, Notifications, Account and General pages in place of the single settings screen. Closing the window still tucks the app into the tray.

    Fixed

    • The browser-tab shortcut now works on AZERTY keyboards. It was being sent as Ctrl and nothing else.
    • Buying Pro now activates your account even if you edit the address on the checkout page. Some purchases had been landing on no account.
  4. 0.1.3

    Added

    • Updates can be installed from inside the app: Settings shows when a newer version is out, and installs it when you say so.
    • Notifications: Stayaway tells you when another app has taken one of its shortcuts, when a permission is missing, when you are offline and how long Pro lasts, when an update is out, and the first time it keeps running in the tray. You also get a reminder three days and one day before your trial ends.
    • Now and then, news about Stayaway as a notification, a banner or an item in the tray. You can turn it off in Settings, under Notifications and data.
    • Usage data: when the app starts and stops and whether it crashed, whether signing in worked, and whether you saw a message. It is sent with this computer's machine ID, never your account. On by default; switch it off in Settings, under Notifications and data.

    Fixed

    • Auto Detect now starts a run when you step away. Since launch it stopped working a moment after the app opened, while the window still said it was waiting for you.
    • Typing, clicking or scrolling now stops a run, not only moving the mouse.
    • Keyboard shortcuts work, Emergency Stop included. Every letter shortcut was registered and did nothing; only the window and tray could stop a run.
    • Emergency Stop works even when Keyboard Activity is holding Shift or Control at the moment you press it.
    • If part of the app stops unexpectedly, the run stops safely and the window tells you, instead of freezing.
  5. 0.1.2

    Added

    • A trial countdown, so you can see how long your Pro trial has left.
    • The app now says why a run stopped, and why Auto Detect will not start when it is waiting on something.
    • A Report a problem button in Settings, which saves a short report you can read before emailing it to us.
    • The app notices when the activity it simulates stops reaching Windows, and tells you instead of carrying on silently.

    Fixed

    • Paid licences now renew by themselves while you are online, instead of expiring and needing Repair licence.
    • Error messages no longer blame you for failures that were ours.
    • The run log now works in the installed app, not only in development builds.
  6. 0.1.1

    Changed

    • Packaged for the public release channel. No change to the app itself.
  7. 0.1.0-alpha.1

    Added

    • The first public build for Windows 10 and 11.
    • Natural mouse activity, keyboard and scroll activity, and screen rotation.
    • Auto Detect, which starts a run when you have been idle, and Smart Resume, which ends it when you come back.
    • Activity Levels and Screen Presets.
    • Global shortcuts, including Emergency Stop, and a system tray icon.
    • Sign-in with an emailed code, a free plan, a 7-day Pro trial and Pro licences that work offline.
